I was pacing back and forth in front of the Brooklyn LIU campus when Sherry walked up on me.

“I’m here,” Sherry spoke.

“Oh, shit, you scared the crap out of me. Don’t walk up on people like that. You from the street; you should know better.”

She started to turn around to walk away.

“Yo, Sherry, stop. Thanks for coming to see me. Now tell me about this Daniel ’cause I just don’t trust this whole shit. It’s too good to be true. Why is this dude giving up money to chicks he don’t even know? How did Cindy meet him?”

“I brought Cindy back to that club she danced at and we met Carmen, who introduced Cindy to Daniel. He told her that he could make her business into a multimillion dollar company. I met him that same day you showed up at Cindy’s. Matter of fact he wired her fifty bands to get everything started.”

“Fifty bands? Just like that? Without y’all having shit, but a few ads for sex lines. Don’t you think that’s too easy?”

“Yeah, at first, but he’s already got us a hundred-thousand dollar contract with a distribution company called Vivid Entertainment. So far I don’t see any scam and you know I can spot those a mile away,” she said with confidence.

“Yeah, you supposed to. But that’s all you know ’bout him? Have you even talked to him?” Her answers weren’t sitting good with me. It was clear that I had to find out exactly who and where this motherfucker came from.

“A’ight, if you through with the interrogation I gotta go. I just wish you would just be happy for us and see what Cindy’s tryin’ to offer you instead of hatin’.” She rolled her eyes back.

“Look, Sherry, if this shit is on the up-and-up I’ma be the happiest one for y’all. Shit, and if I can get in where I fit in I’m straight. Facts.”

“A’ight, Wayne, just don’t fuck our shit up, that’s all I’m saying. I gotta go.” Sherry waved a good-bye and left me there.

Fifty bands, was the only thought in my head. Who the fuck was this man to throw that kind of money to some nobodies? I wasn’t putting Cindy down, but I had to look at this from all angles. Why would he even want to fuck with these bitches? What do they have that he wants? And if he fucked with Carmen, there had to be something he was after.

With all those questions entering my mind I headed to the club where Carmen worked. I figured on talking to the bartenders and dancers so I could get the scoop on Carmen.
